Parenting Skills Program Leadership Training Workshop

The purpose of this two-day skills training workshop is to provide the beginning parent trainer, or enrich the experienced parent trainer, with the generic leadership skills required to conduct effective parent education programs. This workshop will also benefit clinicians who desire a compact orientation package that will increase their ability to deal with parenting issues in their individual clinical work with children and families.

The workshop will explore principles and issues relevant to the use of a wide variety of parenting skills programs. Included will be information about recruitment, maximizing attendance and participation, leadership style, and the skills of optimal leadership. These skills have been found to be of value to leaders conducting any type of parent education program that includes discipline and/or parent-child communication. Emphasis will be placed on developing participants' leadership skills through demonstration and modeling followed by small group leadership role-plays accompanied by feedback from the workshop leader.
